Phoenix Model Aircraft Club -Now in our 31st year

Yet another sterling effort was made on Friday the 28^th of April to re-felt the roof of the hut. During the work it was noticed that the hut was in need of diagonal bracing inside to stabilize it! This was also carried out and the task was completed in good time as can be seen in the photos below. Well done to the team – a great effort (More in the newsletter in the members area).

 – and we now have a brand new windsock as well….

I’d had an idea for a while to make a new model stand having got fed up with bending down and straining to assemble models and was wanting the ability to work on a model at a reasonable height., – So, I was in Aldi yesterday and in their special offers was a bike stand price £29.99. This morning I have a new model stand – check it out.

I had a spare piece of 40mm plastic plumbing pipe so step one was to drill 2 holes in my old stand through which to feed the 40mm pipe. The hole cutter I had was 38mm so produced a very tight fit. I haven’t decided if I need to Araldite or not yet as it seems very firm.

Next – I set aside one of the arms provided and just used the short arm with the quick release coupling to attach to the bike stand as follows:-

and the finished item – sturdy – the height is adjustable and the padded feet have the ability to be pinned (via e.g. tent pegs) to the ground.:- and with model,- but more of this one later.
